Loving-Kindness (Maitri)
From section 20 of Come Home To Your Light: 111 Practices for a Soul-Led Life.
Maitri, also known as metta, is an ancient practice of building unconditional friendship with yourself and the world around you. It draws you out of a feeling of separateness and back into the awareness that you belong.
On days when you feel physically heavy or emotionally worn out, it offers a way to recharge.
Find a quiet space where you can close your eyes and won't be disturbed for around 6 minutes. Headphones help.
After the practice
Notice how you feel. You may feel warmer, softer, or more connected. If you don't feel much at first, trust the practice anyway. Kindness grows each time you offer it, and with time the feeling will follow.
A playlist to accompany the practices in the book.
This is one of the practices from Come Home To Your Light: 111 Practices for a Soul-Led Life, where you'll find it alongside 110 others.
